Hurricane Erin Brings Coastal Damage and Flooding

Hurricane Erin is making its closest pass to the United States today, staying offshore but unleashing significant impacts across the East Coast.

From Florida to New England, residents are dealing with:

  • 🌊 Storm Surge: 1–4 ft in some coastal areas, especially the Outer Banks.
  • 🌪️ High Winds: Gusts up to 75 mph in North Carolina.
  • ⚠️ Rip Currents: Life-threatening conditions with hundreds of rescues this week.
  • 📍 Flooding Damage: Cape Hatteras sand dunes overtopped, streets flooded, and evacuations in place.

What to Expect Next

Erin is moving northeast, away from the U.S., but dangerous rip currents, high surf, and localized flooding will continue into tomorrow.

Behind Erin, forecasters are also monitoring a new disturbance that may become Tropical Storm Fernand, while much of the country braces for a strong cold front bringing the coldest weather of the summer.
